Assalamu Alaykum,
We are honored to host Imam Zaid Shakir in Knoxville tomorrow, February 13 at Masjid Annoor at 7:00 PM insha-Allah! Imam Zaid is amongst the most respected and influential Islamic scholars in the West. This is a rare opportunity, and this special event should not be missed!
Imam Mohamed Al Sharif, the Imam of the Islamic Center of Nashville, was instrumental in helping us bring Imam Zaid and will be visiting our community with him as well, insha-Allah. We hope you and your families can join us tomorrow!
wassalam,

About Imam Zaid Shakir
Imam Zaid is co-founder of Zaytuna College. Born in Berkeley, California, Imam Zaid Shakir accepted Islam in 1977 while serving in the United States Air Force. He then earned a Bachelor's degree with honors in International Relations at American University in Washington, D.C., and later a Master's in Political Science at Rutgers University, where he was co-leader of a successful South Africa divestment campaign and also co-founded a local Islamic center, Masjid al-Huda. As an American Muslim who came of age during the civil rights struggles, Imam Zaid has brought both sensitivity about race and poverty issues and scholarly discipline to his faith-based work. He is a frequent speaker at local and national Muslim events and has emerged as one of the nation's top Islamic scholars and a voice of conscience for American Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Imam Zaid has served as an advisor to many organizations, and influential leaders. Recently, Imam Zaid was ranked as "one of America's most influential Scholars" in the West; by The 500 Most Influential Muslims, edited by John Esposito and Ibrahim Kalin, (2009).
