Knoxville's First Resident Scholar

Assalamu Alaikum,

The Muslim Community of Knoxville is happy and honored to announce that Shaykh Hassan Lacheb has been appointed as Knoxville's Resident Scholar. This position is intended to provide educational resources for the Muslims in the greater Knoxville area.  It is not an "imam" position and we will continue with the search, insha-Allah.

About Shaykh Hassan Lacheb

Shaykh Hassan B. Ahmed al-Ashhab al-Salawx012b; al-Raghraghx012b; is currently a PhD Candidate in the department of Islamic Studies at Indiana University.  The title of his dissertation is: The Making of The Maghrebx012b; Prophet: A Historical and Semantic Study of Letters to the Prophet Mux1e25;ammad."

Shaykh Hassan completed his M.A. in Islamic Theology, Islamic Legal Theory, and Maliki Jurisprudence from Dar al-Hadith al-Hassaniyyah for Higher Islamic Studies in Rabat, Morocco with honors in 2000. In addition, he completed his B.A. with distinction in Arabic Language and Literature from the University Mohamed V. in Rabat, Morocco.
    
Shaykh Hassan has extensively studied several disciplines including Principles of Jurisprudence (Usul al-Fiqh), Arabic Grammar, Philology, and Literature. He has also received many ijazaat (licenses to teach) from prominent scholars in Hadith, Comparative Jurisprudence (fiqh), and the Sciences of Quran.

 

He is currently teaching Arabic at the University of TN and resides in Knoxville with his wife and two daughters.

Thursday Nights after 'Isha Prayer (beginning Feb. 9) 


This book of hadith is about the manners, etiquette, and ideal behaviors in different situations. It contains over 1,300 ahadith (narrations of the Prophet peace blessings be upon him) organized in 55 chapters. The purpose of this study is to know about and draw nearer to our Prophet and his great teachings (peace blessings be upon him). This book is translated by Aisha Bewley.

 

Tafsir
Saturday Nights after 'Isha Prayer (beginning Feb. 10)
 
The first two sessions will be devoted to introducing basic issues in the study of the Quran, the schools of Tafsx012b;r, major Mufasirs (commentators), and the methodology which will be used in the Halaqa.
