Join MCK in the MLK Parade Next Monday
16 January 2012
Assalamu Alaikum,
The Muslim Community of Knoxville would like to invite you and your families on Monday, January 16 to the city of Knoxville's annual MLK Parade commemorating the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We will gather at Masjid Annoor at 8:30 AM, insha-Allah, and carpool to the parade which begins on Martin Luther King Avenue.
Also, Imam Rafiq Mahdi will represent MCK at the Interfaith Prayer Service on Wednesday, January 11 at 11:00 AM at the First Christian Church (211 W. Fifth Ave.), insha-Allah.
Be sure to RSVP for these events on o
ur Facebook page.
It is the civil rights laws that Dr. King and others gave their lives for in the 1960s that we as Muslims today regularly benefit from and use to practice our religion. Dr. King's hope for equality was also expressed by our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who said in his final sermon: "All mankind is from Adam and Eve...a white (person) has no superiority over a black (person), nor does a black have any superiority over a white - except by piety and good action."
Please join us with many other civil, community, and faith-based groups in this multi-cultural event. Let's take this opportunity to stand as a diverse, unified community and give back to the civil rights movement whose work we benefit from everyday.
If you have any questions, please contact Br. Felix Gaitor (fgatr18@gmail.com). We look forward to seeing you on January 16, insha-Allah!
